General Santos City– videos of a tall and fabulously colorful local celebrity went viral on the net. The videos went viral even before the organizers formally released them to the public.

Talk about spoilers

Oh, yes. It’s Paraguay! Still looking for a legitimate video scandal? Read on to find out more.

The videos were but brilliantly made Tuna Festival ads. Sure enough, they elicited tides of comments.

Some went even as far as saying that the videos were scandalous for them. Some said that Ms. Philippines Universe, Shamcey Supsup or perhaps 8 time world boxing champ Congressman Manny Pacquiao would have been more suited to endorse the Tuna Festival. They said Paraguay is but a mongrel and he does not really represent General Santos City. They garnered publicity in the local afternoon news.

Still, opinions as such above were greatly unpopular (their opinions are still highly respected though). It would be harsh to point out their jealousy, insecurity and histrionic tendencies.

Many thought the videos were very funny, even very entertaining. It wasn’t scandalous in any way. People laugh excessively when Vice Ganda throws an offensive joke. Why should it be any different just because it’s Paraguay’s in the lime light endorsing a local festivity?

Shamcey Suspsup and Manny Pacquiao would have been great endorsers but Paraguay just has a certain charm unlike none other. Paraguay is easily relatable. Everybody tried walking along the National Highway because of high prices of fare, right? Everybody knows him. After all, taga-Gensan ka kung kilala mo si Paraguay (you’re from Gensan if you know Paraguay). Besides, Paraguay doesn’t have a busy schedule unlike that of Ms. Supsup and Congressman Pacquiao and he practically worked with way less talent fee.

Paraguay IS a mongrel. Everybody knows that and that’s his own claim to fame. Everyone has seen him once in a while walking down the streets or in the malls or in concerts. That’s why the videos are also very appealing. They’ve made a local everybody knows into an icon everybody loves. Then again, Paraguay has always been a celebrity, the lime light just formalized it.

Paraguay just goes to show, poverty is not a hindrance (it never is). Furthermore, it can be used to your advantage. Good news circulating around the web is, may pamasahe na si Paraguay.

P.S. Even the author is excited for this year’s TUNA FESTIVAL (more excited than usual).
